The terrain of Wenchuan, the epicenter, of Sichuan Province
Wenchuan is mostly surrounded by mountains, and lies by Min River (previously known as Wen River). The roads linking Wenchuan to outside world wind over mountains. The collapse of mountains and rock-mud slides caused severe damage to roads after the earthquake. Heavy machinery still cannot reach Wenchuan after a few days of the earthquake.
